About

The English Language Department is one of the first scientific departments in the College of Education at the University of Misrata. It was established in 1991 AD with national cadres with high teaching experience. Since its establishment, the department has sought to graduate distinguished batches of English language teachers and keep pace with modern requirements. The department also awards a Bachelor of Education degree in the field of teaching the English language.

Preparing scientific cadres with educational, educational and research competence prepared to serve the community in the field of the English language.

Social Service


About

The department of Social Service in the faculty of Education- Misurata University was established in spring semester of the academic year 2009/2010 in accordance with the vision of Misurata University about the need to complement the set of disciplines at the university. Thereby, the department was established due to the continuous need of the society for social workers that can provide assistance for individuals, groups, and the society as part of achieving promotion of the community and contributing positively to the worthiest objectives of human well-being. The overall number of students in the department reached 197 students, represented by (51) male students, and (146) female students, distributed across semesters, thus ranging from first to graduation semester. The educational program of the department involves specialized courses, general courses, as well as pedagogical courses. The first class of social workers from the department graduated in autumn semester of the academic year 2013/2014, 2 of which were assigned as teaching assistants in the department and later they received scholarships from the university to pursue their higher studies abroad, with a view to having them in the future as core faculty members in the department.

2 Undertaking scientific social and field research and doing the practical work within the framework of appropriate planning for professional intervention of social service.

Goals

1. Producing social specialists that are capable of working as general practitioners after passing the period of theoretical and practical training.
2. Developing professional educational curricula of social service in accordance with the aspirations of the society in the future, in a way that guarantees social specialists the readiness and potential to face individual, group and society problems they deal with.
3. Undertaking several academic scientific studies in furtherance of the knowledge base of social specialists working in the different fields of social service.
4. Conducting a number of training programs concerning social skills in the numerous fields of social service.
5. Providing professional advisory services to civil society organizations so as to achieve the development goals the community seeks to achieve.
6. Cooperating with various authorities and community institutions regarding the conduct of different research studies and field research in order to monitor changes and find out how to deal with them.
7. Contributing to the preparation and implementation of development programs and projects in the community.

The department of Social Service seeks to produce distinctive highly-competent social specialists who are capable of doing competitive work at the labor-market at the local, national and regional levels.

Kindergartens


About

The Kindergarten Department was established during the academic year 2005/2006 AD, as one of the educational departments at the College of Education, Misrata University. The department aims to prepare high school graduates and their level for the teaching profession in kindergarten institutions, and contributes to raising the professional and scientific level of those working in the field of child education and upbringing, in addition to Conducting research and studies in the field of childhood to serve the community. The study system followed is the open semester system, and grants a bachelor’s degree in education, specializing in (kindergarten).

The Department of Mathematics is one of the main departments and a basic pillar of education and one of the first departments established in the college, where the Higher Institute for Teacher Education began in the academic year 1995-1996 AD. Two batches graduated from it with a two-year “higher diploma” system, then one batch graduated with a three-year system, and in the academic year 2000-2001 AD it was transformed into The study system in the department changed to the semester system, and the educational institution was named by its current name, the College of Education.

Providing a distinguished educational and research program specialized in qualifying scientifically specialized cadres in the field of mathematics and education to contribute to raising the intellectual and mathematical level and raising the level of education and scientific research to keep pace with the needs of the labor market and the requirements of the local community.

Arabic Language


About

The department of Arabic is one of the departments founded along with the establishment of the faculty in the academic year 1995- 1996. The department was founded with the purpose of producing Arabic language teachers for middle school education. In addition, the department takes the responsibility of teaching the general course of Arabic language at all the departments of the faculty, as well as in some other faculties at Misurata University. Workshops and training courses for promoting the skills and abilities of teachers are usually done by the department and indeed paid great attention. At the beginning, the department started with 27 students and the first class of graduates was in 1998- 1999. Later, in the autumn semester of the academic year 2007, a branch of the department was opened in Tawargha aiming at enabling students that live ther to join the department. In fact, the department of Arabic language now is considred the biggest of all departments in the faculty of Education.

Mission

The department of Arabic language is strictly committed to achieving the purpose for which it was established in accordance with the highest standards of quality control, through producing well-qualified teachers that are well-trained and prepared to do their jobs professionally, adhering to their moral and Islamic values and taking it upon themselves to enhance the status of the holy quran within their Arabic community in general, and their Libyan one in particular.

Goals

1. Providing students with educational curricula concerning all the branches of Arabic Language and its literature involving both old and modern literature and connecting these sciences to the sciences of education, teaching methods, computer, English language, and others.
2. Making a generation of students that are well-aware and enabling them to become familiar with the various sciences of language and its arts.
3. Keeping in touch with language faculties, departments and centers locally, and internationally, as well as exchanging applied experiences and enriching relevant knowledge.
4. Contributing to the provision of advisory services, as well as linguistic and applied experiences of audio-visual media, civil registry offices in public facilities, and magazines and newspapers, each according to their need.
5. Cooperating with the student activity administration at the university regarding the planning, organization, and supervision of scientific and literary competitions at the level of student activity administrations at Libyan Universities.
6. Encouraging faculty members to give their lectures in Standard Arabic, as well as encouraging them to conduct linguistic and literary scientific research and utilizing such distinctive research to participate in specialized conferences and symposiums, with a view to finding appropriate solutions and recommendations to make standard Arabic the official language in the country that is used in everyday conversation.
7. Working on scientific linguistic training of students through getting faculty members to supervise practical training of students in two ways: guidance and evaluation, and introducing students to the most accessible and successful teaching methods.
8. Sharing experiences with other departments in the faculty through teaching general Arabic Language courses in the various scientific departments of the faculty.
9. Cooperating with the Administration of Education in Misurata to organize motivating training courses for teachers in Misurata, aiming at promoting their level in terms of their professional scientific performance.
10. Opening the door for joining postgraduate programs to teaching assistants and students seeking to pursue their studies.
11. Providing students with the services they need at the beginning of every new semester through guiding them to how they can register in courses, and introducing them to the regulations of the faculty as well as the department they wish to join or are part of.
12. Cooperating with the department of study and examination in the faculty through founding exam committees and participating in the supervision of exams, as well as setting dates for announcing exam results and making sure exam regulations are applied.

The period of study in the faculty that ends up with receiving a bachelor's degree is made up of at least seven semesters at the end of which students receive a bachelor’s degree. Students are not allowed to get over twelve semesters from the beginning of joining the department, not including the semesters at which students have semester withdrawals.



Vision

The department of Arabic Language – faculty of Education is seeking to become a platform for dissemination and promotion of the Holly Quran and its sciences in our Arabic and Islamic nations, and of course in Libya. The department is doing its best to contribute to teaching the language and its literature to future generations, conduct symposia, linguistic and literary conferences about Libya and its Arabic heritage, as well as getting the language to keep up with the demands of modern age. Last but not least, the department aims at opening the door for postgraduate studies.

Islamic Studies


About

The department of Islamic Studies was founded in the academic year 2003-2004, with only one branch (Studies branch), and it included 73 students. Later in 2007, they were divided into two branches (Studies, Minarets). The number of graduates from Studies branch reached 331 students, while Minarets produced 58 graduates. In 2011, the branches were changed into (Sharia and Islamic Theology) and the number of students enrolled in these branches reached 77 students in Sharia and 58 students in Islamic Theology.

The department of Educational Administration and Planning was established in the Fall of 2007 as a division of the Department of Educational and Psychological Studies. Then in 2011, it became an independent department earning its graduates a bachelor’s degree.
The graduates from this department are able to manage and make plans for educational institutions, as they acquire the skills that qualify them to manage educational institutions, plan programs and projects that intend to develop the education sector, and to prepare a generation of educational leaders.

About

The Department of General Specialization was established as a division in the Faculty of Education in the academic year 1999-2000. Then in 2009-2010, the Department of General Specialization became a division of the Department of Educational and Psychological Studies.
After the Libyan Revolution in 2011, the department became independent and was renamed the Department of Teacher Education.

Mission

Teacher Education Department seeks to meet quality standards by preparing teachers with efficient professional competencies, so they become able to keep pace with developments in general life areas while maintaining their national identity. It also aims to enable the learners to master the art of academic knowledge and the methods of teaching it with efficiency and excellence. It aspires to activate the movement of educational research, community service, and improving the quality of life through positive communication to meet contemporary needs and quality standards.

In light of the educational vision and mission of the Department of Teacher Education, the goals were defined as follows:

The Department of Chemistry is one of the main departments in the college to raise the level of chemistry among students and advance the scientific level and advance it. About

The Department of Biology is one of the educational departments at the Faculty of Education in Misurata. The department was established in the academic year 1996. The department aims to train and graduate qualified bachelors in education in the field of biology in its three branches (zoology, botany, and microbiology) to supply the shortage of middle school teachers. The department has a laboratory to perform the practical aspects of the specialized courses.

Mission

The department’s mission is centered on building perceptions and taking action to train excellent professional cadres, morally and academically, in the field of teaching life sciences in the Libyan society through meeting quality standards and promoting scientific research in the field of life sciences and its applications. The department is committed to fulfilling the quality standards in preparing, qualifying and graduating a biology teacher who is able to perform his educational and applied profession with efficiency, distinction and excellence, adhering to moral values, ideals and educational principles and seeking to serve and develop the community locally and regionally.

About

The Department of Geography (in the former Teachers College) was established in the academic year 1997/1998. However, the department stopped registering students in 2002 due to the lack of student enrollment. Then the department reopened again in the spring of 2007, to prepare cadres who are educationally and geographically qualified to meet the needs of basic and intermediate education in the field of geography teaching.

Mission

Commitment to and fulfillment of quality standards and requirements in geographical education, educational qualification, scientific research and community service in accordance with the latest technologies and teaching methods in the field of modern education and learning in accordance with the requirements of sustainable development.

Goals

The department seeks to achieve the following goals:

1- Preparing and graduating specialized teachers and educators who are distinguished by high abilities in teaching and learning through good and distinguished qualification according to scientific research methodology. They bear the responsibility of preparing and raising future generations in the present and future, and meet the requirements of the labor market.
2- Leadership in education, learning, scientific research and community service
3- Apply, develop and achieve quality performance and outputs
4- Optimal use of modern geographical and teaching techniques in education and scientific research
5- Attracting scientific competencies from faculty members, researchers and teaching assistants
6- Developing advanced programs for communication inside and outside the college with students and graduates of the department

About

The Department of History is one of the departments of the School of Humanities in the Faculty of Education, Misurata University. The department was established in early October 2000 and includes many experienced and highly qualified teaching staff in the field of history and its various branches (ancient, Islamic, medieval, modern, and contemporary). The first batch of 31 students graduated in the summer of 2004. They were awarded a bachelor’s degree in history. The department offers many excellent academic activities to enhance the students' levels.

Mission

The department will be committed to meeting quality standards in graduating a capable academic teacher and researcher. An employee who introduced the latest approaches to developing scientific research without neglecting his role in community service.

Goals

1- Connecting the university and its students to our authentic heritage, and trying to create a reasonable balance between our cultural heritage and our nation’s current issues.
2- Providing a high-level, distinguished, and modern level of curricula, academic courses, programs, and services in various sciences related to the field of teaching history and historical studies.
3- Providing public education institutions and other institutions with specialized elements in the field of history and education.
4- Developing general cultural awareness of the importance of historical studies in all its various forms and fields among students of the department and college and other segments of society in the city of Misrata.

About

The Department of Art Education at the Faculty of Education in Misurata was established in the fall semester of the academic year 2006-2007, based on the vision of the university to pay attention to the various activity departments, and to prepare qualified teachers technically, academically, culturally and educationally in the field of art education to work in various fields to serve Libya. The department started with a group of 40 students, then the number of students increased year after year until it reached more than 200 students during the spring semester of 2012-2013.
The academic plan in the department consists of general, specialized, and educational courses. The first batch of students graduated in the fall semester of 2010-2011and 6 teaching assistants were later appointed from the department’s graduates.

Mission

The Department of Art Education at the Faculty of Education, Misurata University graduates students in the specialization of Art Education to meet the needs of educational institutions and small industrial projects. It additionally aims to provide the students with the foundations of knowledge and skills to match local, regional, and international standards and the requirements of educational institutions and small industrial projects in various fields of specialization. The department promotes
full awareness of the society and environment problems and ethics.

Preparing art education teachers in the pre-university education levels scientifically, academically, and educationally.
